Bio

Mr. Adelson is the firm's General Counsel and Managing Partner of the National Practice Group. He has practiced in the field of Workers' Compensation for over 30 years.
 
Prior to joining Adelson, Testan, Brundo, Novell & Jimenez, Mr. Adelson spent sixteen years at Zonni, Ginocchio & Taylor where he was the Managing Partner of the Santa Ana office, as well as the firm's civil department. In addition, Mr. Adelson's legal career includes experience in the areas of civil, family and criminal law.

He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Fullerton in 1973, and received his Juris Doctor from Western State University College of Law in Fullerton, California in 1976. Mr. Adelson has also completed numerous courses in Advanced Legal Education at the University of Southern California Law Center. In addition, he has completed multiple courses in orthopedic medicine, psychiatric medicine, and human anatomy.

Mr. Adelson has served as a Judge Pro Tem. Additionally, he has been a workers' compensation instructor at several colleges in Southern California. He has also lectured extensively regarding workers' compensation, employment, and subrogation issues to physician, employer, insurer, and labor groups. Some of his lectures may be heard through an audio series entitled, "Legal Management Resources", and the video lecture entitled, "Meeting at the Crossroads".


Mr. Adelson has also authored articles in the Orange County Business Journal, and Workers' Compensation Enquirer. In addition, he has been interviewed and subsequently quoted in numerous publications. He has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal on issues of workers' compensation and employment law and in Business Insurance regarding the lack of oversight for drug compounding in a recent outbreak of meningitis. In March 2013, Mr. Adelson was interviewed for Property Casualty 360 Magazine where he discussed current trends in workers’ compensation focusing on 3 perspectives; pricing, claims and risk selection. He was also quoted by Risk & Insurance on June 13, 2014 in an online article examining recent court rulings on positive drug test results and workers’ compensation claims. As a result of his participation in a panel discussion at the 2015 Risk Management Summit in New York titled, “The Mobile Workforce Puts New Twist on Employer Risks," Mr. Adelson was quoted in The Workers’ Comp News Executive Digest and in Tire Business Magazine. In April 2016, Mr. Adelson was extensively quoted in an article in the Forum section of CLM's Workers' Compensation Magazine titled, "Why Do Workers' Compensation Claims Cost So Much?." In July of 2016, Mr. Adelson was quoted when commenting on the Pokemon Craze in two different publications, the Society For Human Resource Management titled, "The 'Pokemon Go' Craze: How Should Workplaces Respond?." and Business Insurance titled, "Pokemon Go Distractions Can Cause All Kinds of Havoc."  In December of 2016, Business Insurance magazine interviewed Mr. Adelson and he was quoted in two different articles. The first titled, "Who pays to heal mental injuries of first responders?" and, the second, "Medical pot wave raises comp concerns." In January of 2017, Mr. Adelson was interviewed by NBC News and subsequently quoted in an article titled, "New Law Could Let French Workers Ignore After-Hours Email." Mr.Adelson was quoted in an article from the February 2017 issue of Business Insurance titled, "Medical marijuana comp payments rolling in." Also, in February of 2017, as a result of an interview on legal issues in workers’ compensation, Mr. Adelson was quoted in Tack’n Togs, a leading source of news and information for equine retailers. Mr. Adelson was quoted in a July 2017 Business Insurance artcle titled, "comp cover for medical marijuana dispensaries in question." Later in July 2017, Mr. Adelson was interviewed and subsequently quoted in a Law360 article titled, "The Best Law Firms For Female Partners." ATB ranked #1 in smaller firms and was one of only two firms to report having 50 percent or more female equity partners. In the Fall issue of the CLM Workers' Compensation Magazine, Mr. Adelson was quoted in an article titled, “Get Well Wishes Work.” In February of 2018, Louise Esola from Business Insurance, interviewed Mr. Adelson for an article titled, "Comp Rules Vary for Traveling Workers." The piece has various experts weighing in on employers needing to know the rules of their states and making it clear to employees the risks of getting injured while traveling. Most recently, Mr. Adelson was interviewed and quoted in a Business Insurance article by Joyce Famakinwa titled, "Employers Urged to Mitigate Workplace Bullying Risks."

Mr. Adelson has been a member of various professional organizations including, the Joint Orange County Workers' Compensation Carriers and Defense Association, the Workers' Compensation Defense Association, the Southern California Fraud Investigators Association, the Southern California Defense Counsel Association and the Claims Litigation Management Alliance. He also volunteers as a mentor for first year students at Chapman University School of Law. Mr. Adelson is also a member of the Society of Corporate Compliance & Ethics, a community of compliance professionals that defines and shapes the corporate environment across a wide range of industries and around the world. In addition he is an active member of the Sports Lawyer Association and, in 2014, he became a member of the National Retail and Restaurant Defense Association (NRRDA).

Over the years, Mr. Adelson has been the recipient of several honors. In both 2012 and 2016, Mr. Adelson received the prestigious designation of Certified Litigation Management Professional (CLMP) from the CLM's Litigation Management Institute. He was also nominated and accepted as a member of The Society of Fellows of the Orange County Bar Foundation. In January of 2014, Mr. Adelson was honored by The Legal Network – 2014 as one of California’s Top Lawyers, exhibiting the highest in ethical standards and professional excellence. In the Who's Who 2017 publication  Mr. Adelson was named a Top Attorney of North America.

On May 13, 2013, Mr. Adelson was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States of America. In addition, on January 9, 2015, Mr. Adelson was sworn in and admitted to the Washington, D.C. bar.
